When someone accesses your site, they do not have to provide an HTML page name, they can just enter your main URL. For example, instead of entering http://www.yourname.com/index.html, they can just enter http://www.yourname.com. To make this work, you must name your home page a certain way. You can even have your default home page be a CGI.
The default names you may use for your home page are looked for in this order:
- index.php
- index.html
- index.htm
- index.shtml
- index.php4
- index.php3
- index.phtml
- index.cgi
